Frequently Asked Questions

You can purchase our Stainless Steel products directly from our UK Head Office or through your local electrical wholesaler. From our UK Head Office, we ship goods worldwide on a daily basis. You can collect the goods yourself or arrange for your preferred carrier to collect the goods on your behalf. We despatch hundreds of orders on a daily basis, so we advise our customers who wish to arrange their own collection to contact our Sales Team beforehand to ensure their goods are ready for collection. Do you manufacture anything in Galvanised Steel? No. Every item manufactured by Electrix is made from Stainless Steel. Other manufacturers produce Stainless Steel and Galvanised Cable Management Systems in the same building using the same machinery and are at high risk of contaminating their products. It only needs one welding spark from a Galvanised product to land on the Stainless Steel product and it will contaminate the Stainless Steel. This small spark is enough, over time, to corrode the Stainless Steel. The major appeal of Stainless Steel in the Food, Pharmaceutical, Brewing, Soft Drinks and Offshore industries is its resistance to rust/corrosion. The only product produced by Electrix that is not Stainless Steel is the Zintec Gear Plate in our Enclosures. These are all made by a third party and are stove enamelled before we receive them. Do you use a laser or a punch to cut your Stainless Steel? We use both. Our Laser and Punching Department is equipped with the latest technology following a £2,000,000 investment in this department last year. I have had laser cut Stainless Steel in the past and it had sharp edges. Do Electrix 's products have sharp edges? No. When our laser machines were delivered we spent a number of weeks perfecting the cutting process before we produced any goods for stock. Each individual product is checked for sharp edges when it comes from the machine. The parameters of our laser machines have been finely tuned to provide the best cut for each part. In addition, we designed a purpose-built Stainless Steel laser bed for each product, which eliminates the sharp edges. In your Trunking and Enclosure ranges, what is the difference between Satin and Polished Finish? Polished finish is a bright, mirror-like reflective surface. Satin is a dull, brushed surface with a visible grain. 304 stainless steel is available in both a satin and a polished finish. 316 stainless steel is only available in a satin finish. Both are achieved mechanically; we do not electropolish our trunking or enclosures. What is the difference between 304 and 316 grade Stainless Steel? The difference is in the chemical composition of the steel, and its resulting resistance to attack by corrosive substances. 304 grade stainless steel is suitable for installations in environments which are kept hygienically clean eg. in the food or pharmaceutical industries. For environments where exposure to particularly hazardous or corrosive substances is likely eg. the offshore or chemical industries, it is recommended that the more resistant 316 grade stainless steel is used. |
